Over the last few weeks I designed how I wanted dog travel cages to fit into my van. I drew up sizes to work off of, ordered up materials, and then set about making them.
Never really having worked with metal before, I estimated it would take me about 2-3 days to make the cages from start to finish, but the reality was a little more tricky and involved more thought and time to do each task at hand. Even just cutting through the lengths of material with a grinder took longer than I'd initially expected... some of those sections were reallly solid!
Welding each section together, and trying to ensure that all the sections were going to line up correctly and fit together was time consuming too. Also, care had to be taken to try to avoid the pieces getting too hot and deflecting, which would mean they likely wouldn't line up!
It took me a week to put it together, paint it all, then build it into the van and secure it!
The first dog transported was the perfect example to show the size of the cages and the space available within them. . . a Doberman!
